Sellé scholarship from Stephen Willis |
This family-history website was contacted in 2005 by Stephen Willis, who wrote ...
I am still reeling from the shock of stumbling
across your excellent family history website! My attention was directed to
it by a friend who had somehow come across the name William Christian Selle.
I was for nine years until 2002 a Gentleman of
the Choir at the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace. Photographs of the
former organists hung in the vestry and always intrigued me. Having an
interest in family history myself I thought it would be nice to find out a
bit more about these men, since nothing at all was recorded at the Palace
beyond their dates underneath the photographs.
I undertook a great deal of research and published what I found out in the choir's annual magazine [Cantamus], on 4 occasions. I have always wondered whether Selle had any descendants alive, and assumed he did because of the number of his grandchildren I had discovered. I can tell from your website that we have on a number of occasions used identical sources in our research. Certainly the archives at Richmond were a gold mine when I found them! I have also undertaken various other forms of research and wonder if you might be interested to see the articles I wrote in case there is anything there that might be new to you? |
Stephen subsequently sent me a good deal of excellent Sellé material, some of which appears on this website by his very kind permission:
